Steering committee

The steering committee is the body that acts between a company organisation and the project organisation. It can be responsible for individual or several projects and should represent the interests of the client, potential users and suppliers. It is usually chaired by the client or an appointed representative.

The smallest possible constellation consists of a representative of the client, the largest possible constellation consists of representatives of all stakeholders (= persons who are of interest based on their interests).

Within a project the steering committee is responsible for all essential decisions. However, only the representative of the client has the authority to make decisions, while all others serve only in an advisory capacity.

The tasks of the steering committee include

  • Budget approval
  • Priority setting
  • Resource Allocation
