Definition

In IT, an operating system forms the interface between hardware and software. It is an umbrella term for programmes that enable the operation of a PC. With the help of an operating system, you can run or stop applications, manage storage space and connected devices, and much more.

Well-known operating systems are Windows, Linux or Mac OS.
